Substance Use Disorders in Alabama is a cooperative effort of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It is made possible by a grant provided by SAMHSA.
In January 2022, the Auburn University Center for Opioid Research, Education, and Outreach’s Substance Use and Misuse Institute faculty members, Drs. Haley Phillippe, Brent Fox, and Karen Marlowe received $750,000 in sponsored project funds. The Alabama Department of Mental Health provided funds through a sub-award through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The educational programming developed targets two primary cohorts, community leaders and healthcare professionals. Healthcare professionals will be eligible to receive continuing education credits for their participation. The content presented focuses on the emerging trends of substance use disorders in Alabama; specifically, the prevalence of substance use disorders amongst populations of significance. The project’s webinars will remain accessible through September of 2024.
