This course provides an evidence-based review of best practices for prescribing, monitoring, and discontinuing opioids and other controlled substances in patients with acute and chronic pain. Participants will examine current clinical guidelines, state and federal regulatory requirements, and patient-specific factors that influence treatment decisions. The course will also address the complexities of differentiating physical dependence, tolerance, opioid use disorder, misuse, and diversion to support accurate assessment and appropriate clinical management.
