This program provides focused education on the foundational knowledge needed to treat pain, which primary care providers have identified as areas where traditional training paradigms have not prepared them for practice. This training addresses the pathophysiology and clinical impact of pain, describes common types of pain, and covers assessment and treatment of pain. The benefits, limitations, and safety considerations of non-opioid pharmacologic therapies used in pain management will be discussed. Special populations and the role of comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions when selecting pain management therapies will be assessed.
