Lesson Information

This two-page color handout provides easy-to-follow instructions, including the materials needed and the layout for an obstacle course designed for 5th through 8th-grade students. The obstacle course uses materials that schools will have on hand. Students will complete tasks with and without goggles, allowing them to understand the impact of substance impairment on several common tasks, including writing, tossing a ball, and walking. Several teachers/staff, as well as student volunteers, will be needed to conduct this activity. This activity should be done in conjunction with the presentation, including information about substance use.
